Dwarves appear as small wiry old humans with wild hair. From their appearance humans would think them fifty or sixty, but in fact Dwarves appear this way for almost their entire lives. Dwarven men always wear long beards often tucked through their belts. Dwarves are very spry for their ancient appearance and typically have well muscled forearms from working at mining and forging. Dwarves are much longer lived than humans, often living to two hundred and the oldest living twice that long.
Though it is rare, Dwarves have been known to turn up all across Eoroma. They emerge from small holes or secret entrances that have gone missed for years. Unknown to humans most Dwarves live in mighty cities deep in the heart of the mountains. They are a hermetic race rarely attempting contact with the above-lands. When they do, it is usually only to find finely crafted artifacts. In exchange for these artifacts the Dwarves may trade some of their crafts or jewels all of which are of the finest quality. A single item crafted by a Dwarven master can easily be worth a small fortune. Because of the legends of profit for those who aid them, when Dwarves do appear in Eoroma they are taken as a sign of good luck and shown great hospitality. Dwarves however rarely trade their goods and rarely come above. It is rumored that Dwarves have existed since the beginning of the world itself and that they know all the secrets of the Earth. It is also said that they have secreted away all the mighty artifacts of legend. While some say there are evil Dwarves that live even deeper in the mountains there is little evidence to substantiate this.
The dwarves are great craftsman and miners. They live completely underground and most go their whole lives without ever venturing into the outside world. They think of nothing but precious stones and metals and care little for matters outside the earth. This can make them seem quite distant around members of other races. A Dwarf is only truly happy when he has a pick or hammer in his hand. Although it is rare to see, angry dwarves are known to throw horrible tantrums where they dance about frantically screaming obscenities. When a Dwarven master crafts a new artifact it is a time of celebration for the Dwarves and great festivities are held. The Dwarves worship Moradin the ancient god of the earth and dwarf kind.
